چکیده

Efficient interconnection networks are critical to the performance of large communication systems and parallel and distributed computing systems with hundreds or thousands of communication components. The well-known Clos network or v(m;n; r) network can be extended to provide full one-to-many or multicast capability. In this paper, we consider several typical routing control strategies for Clos-type nonblocking multicast networks, and derive the necessary conditions under which this type of network is nonblocking for arbitrary multicast assignments in the strict sense as well as under these control strategies. The necessary conditions derived are represented as the number of middle switches m n log r log log r . These results match the sufficient nonblocking condition for the currently best available explicitly constructed, constant stage nonblocking multicast network[6, 7], and provide a basis for the optimal design of this type of multicast network.

Nonblocking conditions of multicast three-stage interconnection networks

This article considers three-stage switching networks able to support multicast traffic, that is, connections in which one inlet is connected to more than one output at the same time. The nonblocking conditions for this network are studied under the assumption of absence of any optimized routing of the connections inside the structure (the so-called strict-sense nonblocking networks). The theor...

Multicast nonblocking switching networks

This letter considers three-stage switching networks for which nonblocking conditions with point-to-point traffic are given by the well known Clos theorem, under the assumption of absence of any optimized routing of the connections inside the network. We give here the conditions for such a network to be strictsense nonblocking under multicast traffic, by showing also that previously published p...

Modelling the Blocking Behavior of Multicast Clos Networks

Wide-Sense Nonblocking Clos Networks under Packing Strategy

In this paper, we study wide-sense nonblocking conditions under packing strategy for the three-stage Clos network, or v(m;n; r) network. Wide-sense nonblocking networks are generally believed to have lower network cost than strictly nonblocking networks. However, the analysis for the wide-sense nonblocking conditions is usually more difficult. Moore[2] proved that a v(m;n; 2) network is nonbloc...

Strictly nonblocking three-stage Clos networks with some rearrangeable multicast capability

Hwang and Lin introduced a new nonblocking requirement for 2-cast traffic which imposes different requirements on different types of coexisting calls. The requirement is strictly nonblocking for point-to-point calls among the 2-cast traffic, and is rearrangeable for genuine 2-cast calls. We generalize the 2-cast calls to multicast calls and give a sufficient condition for such networks when the...
